Chief Warrant Officer Horan is the 2009 Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Athlete of the Year for his outstanding overall competitive record in
Tae Kwon Do.
During 2009, he competed in the US Open with over 1900 competitor from 63 countries consisting of 17 National Teams. In the quarter finals
he was eliminated from the Sparring Competition, but managed to take a bronze for Poomsae. In July after returning from a Unit Deployment Program Training
Mission with the Malaysian Air Force, he competed at the 2009 United States National Tae Kwon Do Championship winning both a gold and bronze medal. He
also competed in the Jimmy Kim Invitational. Jimmy Kim is the United States National Team Poomsae Coach and was the first Olympic Tae Kwon Do Gold Medalist in
the 1988 Olympics. At this competition CWO Horan won gold in Poomsae and bronze in sparring.
In 2008 Chief Warrant Officer Horan attended the All Marine Tae Kwon Do Trials and was selected team captain. He competed in four separate championships that
Year winning 6 gold medals: two at the North Carolina State Championship, two at the United States Nationals and two at the California Invitational. In November 2008
competing in his first International Competition, he won silver in sparring and bronze in Poomsae. Based on his overall performances these past two years, it is this
commands great pleasure to have Chief Warrant Officer as the recipient of this prestigious award. |
