Key Volunteer Network (KVN)

(858) 577-1322 • Bldg. 2273 Mon-Fri (8am-4pm)

WHAT IS THE KEY VOLUNTEER NETWORK?

The Key Volunteer Network is a communication network sponsored by the command.
They work to keep spouses of Marines informed about tasks of their unit and to nurture a
sense of community between command families.

HOW DO I BECOME A KEY VOLUNTEER?

Key Volunteers are spouses within each unit who serve as a communication link between the command and unit families.  Key Volunteers are leaders in building a community atmosphere within the unit. They do this by being a friendly voice on the phone, by helping families get in touch with one another, by giving emotional and moral support when needed and by providing a positive role model for others.  All appointed members of the Family Readiness Team must receive training and be appointed in writing by the Commanding Officer.

WHO SHOULD RECEIVE TRAINING?

Key Volunteers
A Key Volunteer is the spouse of a member of the unit.  They provide information and referral services to families. They communicate with families to promote family readiness. All Key Volunteers must receive training.

Key Volunteer Coordinator
The Key Volunteer Coordinator works under the Commander’s direction.  The KVC works closely with the Family Readiness Officer to ensure that the Commander’s intent is carried out.
The Coordinator is required to complete Key Volunteer Basic and Coordinator Training as well as have previous experience as a Key Volunteer.

Key Volunteer Advisor
The Key Volunteer Advisor is an optional position within the Key Volunteer Network. This position should be filled by a spouse that has been trained and has experience as a Key Volunteer and Key Volunteer Coordinator. The Advisor acts as and advocate for the Key Volunteer Network Program as well as a mentor to the Key Volunteer Coordinator.

Family Readiness Officer
The Family Readiness Officer is a Marine in the unit appointed by the Commanding Officer.
The Family Readiness Officer is the military point of contact for the Key Volunteer Network for all family readiness issues.
