LIFEGUARD & CPR CLASSES

AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARDING COURSE

Are you 15 or older and looking for a great summer job or a challenging career? American Red Cross Lifeguarding is the best place to start! Lifeguarding puts you in an exciting position, working as part of a team to help people safely enjoy the water. You could save a life too! This course trains students in surveillance skills to help you recognize and prevent injuries, rescue skills in the water and on land, first aid training and CPR for the professional rescuer, as well as professional lifeguarding responsibilities.

PRE-REQUISITES:

  1. Minimum age of 15 years
  2. 300-yard continuous swim using the following strokes:
    1. 100 yards front crawl using rhythmic breathing
    2. 100 yards breaststroke
    3. 100 yards front crawl using rhythmic breathing and/or breaststroke
  3. 20-yard swim, using front crawl or breaststroke, dive down to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10-pound object and return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object, exit the water without using stairs or a ladder. Time Limit is 1 minute and 40 seconds.

COST:

  1. $120 for eligible patrons, for example: active duty, retirees, reservists, dependants, and   DOD civilians
  2. $130 for non-military

AMERICAN RED CROSS CPR COURSES

Learn the latest response techniques for cardiac and respiratory emergencies. This class is suitable for parents, babysitters, older children, and people who own backyard pools. Learn the skills today that might help save a life tomorrow.

COST: $65

AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARDING & CPR CHALLENGES

Keep your skills and certification current by attending a challenge course once a year. This three-hour course allows you to re-certify without having to attend the whole Lifeguarding or CPR courses. Please contact the pool for dates and information on the next challenge at (858) 577-4137.
