
REC TRAC AND ENTRY POLICY
All patrons must present proper identification to enter Miramar Sports Complex. This includes Active Duty military personnel in uniform. Patrons are required to scan their IDs in the RecTrac scanner located at the front customer service desk and identify where they are going within the facility. RecTrac scanners are designed to read the bar codes located on the back of eligible patrons ID cards. Headquarters Marine Corps adopted this system for use in all Marine Corps Recreation and Fitness Centers and Marine Corps Base, Quantico became the beta testing site in 1999. When eligible personnel use a Semper Fit recreational facility, information is stored in the computer and is used to track patron usage.
This information is essential to justify future funding for programs, personnel and facilities. It is also used to improve service to our customers by keeping records of their recreational needs and desires.
Eligibilty in order of priority:
- Armed Forces and their family members to include: Members on Active Duty, members of the Reserve Components (Ready reserve and National Guard; Reservists in Training or hospitalized; Inactive Reserves) Delayed entry personnel. Cadets of Service Academies. Members of the Coast Guard.
- Armed Forces and other uniformed service retirees and their families to include: Retired from Active Duty; Retired from the Reserves with pay and Retired without pay.
- Others separated from the Armed Forces and their families to include: Honorably discharged veterans with 100 percent Service-connected disability and involuntarily separated service members under the Transition Assistance Management Program. Personal separated under the Voluntary Separation Incentive (VSI) and Special Separation Benefit (SSB) Programs for two years after separation; Medal of Honor Recipients.
- Former and/or surviving spouses and family members to include: Unremarried surviving spouses of personnel who died while on Active Duty or Retired status; Unremarried former spouses who were married to military members for at least 20 years while the military member was on Active Duty to the Armed Forces. Orphans of military members, when not adopted by new parents, under age 21 (or over if they are incapable of supporting themselves, or age 23 if they are in full time study.)
- Other supporters of DoD to include medical personnel under contract to the Military DoD component during periods when they are residing on the installation.
- US DoD civilians and family members to include: Both APF and NAF civilians.

GUEST POLICY
Authorized patrons at least age 18 and older may sponsor and sign in no more than one bona fide guest. A bona fide guest is someone who is visiting an Active Duty or Retired military member for an extended period of time, or an immediate family member of a DoD civilian (appropriated and nonappropriated fund), working aboard Marine Corps Air Station Miramar. Active Duty military personnel and their family members at least age 18 are authorized to sponsor Active/Retired military family members between the ages of 12 and 15, who possess military dependent ID cards and must comply with age policy restrictions. The sponsor must accompany, supervise and participate in the same event as the guest at all times. Under no circumstances will the sponsor leave the guest unattended. Solicitation by unauthorized patrons is not allowed. The guest and sponsor must sign and abide by the sponsor sign in sheet (release and hold harmless agreement) at the front customer service desk.

YOUTH POLICY
Youth ages sixteen (16) and above are authorized independent (self-directed) use of the Miramar Sports Complex. Youth ages twelve (12) to fifteen (15) are authorized use only with direct supervision by a parent or legal guardian. Youth under the ages of twelve (12) are not authorized in the Miramar Sports Complex unless a member of the Semper Fit program or participating in an MCCS youth sponsored event. Youth may accompany their parents or legal guardians to watch a scheduled MCCS game or event but must remain with their sponsor in the bleachers at all times.
- Age 11 and under. Children ages 11 and younger are not allowed in the Miramar Sports Complex due to the inherent risks and dangers of unsupervised use of fitness facilities.
- Ages 12 to 15. Youth, ages 12 to 15, are authorized use of the equipment in the Fitness Deck when accompanied and under the direct supervision of a parent or legal guardian ages 18 or older. All must complete Marine Teen Training and obtain a Teen Card. The Fitness staff will monitor this usage.
- Ages 16 to 17. Youth, ages 16 to 17, are authorized to participate in self-directed cardiovascular/weight training activities and participate in-group exercise activities, provided they have received instruction on the proper use of equipment and performance technique by a certified fitness instructor, attended Marine Teen Training and obtained a Teen Card. Youth ages 16-17 are permitted full use of all fitness areas.
- DIRECT SUPERVISION. Direct supervision is defined as:
- The sole responsibility of the parent or legal guardian to supervise and care for the child.
- The adult cannot leave the child unattended anywhere in the Miramar Sports complex. Parents may not leave their children alone in the bleachers, lobby, etc. while they participate in basketball, volleyball or any other activity.
- The adult cannot participate in any event that does not directly involve the child.
- During weight training activities, the parent or legal guardian is required to act as the child’s workout partner/”spotter” for children ages 12-15

GENERAL USAGE POLICIES
- All patrons must scan their identification cards at the front customer service desk.
- The use of tobacco products is prohibited anywhere in the facility and grounds unless in a designated tobacco area.
- All participants must wear appropriate gym attire while utilizing the facility. Waist-length shirts are required in all areas (Sports bras alone are not authorized). Hats, dew rags and other headwear are not authorized while participating on the gym floor, racquetball courts, fitness deck and aerobic rooms. (Sweatbands are authorized). Staff members may request a patron to change clothes or leave the facility if they deem attire to be obscene or create a health or safety risk.
- Patrons must sign out all equipment at the front desk.
- All items must remain on base and be returned by close of business the same day checked out.
- Patrons are not authorized to bring music into the facility unless equipped with headphones.
- Spitting anywhere in the facility is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate expulsion from the building.
- Food and beverages are not authorized in the gymnasium, racquetball courts, fitness deck, aerobic room, locker rooms and saunas. This does not include water or sports drinks that are contained in any type sports bottle that can be closed to eliminate spillage.
- The use of foul and abusive language will not be tolerated.
- The Semper Fit staff will not secure or be responsible for individual identification cards, keys, or other personal items. Patrons must either keep these items with them at all times or secure in a daily locker.

GYM FLOOR POLICIES
- Dunking or hanging on basketball rims is strictly prohibited unless during MCCS sanctioned basketball games and IAW with the Basketball Governing Rules pertaining to dunking.
- Personal clothing and other non-athletic equipment must be secured in lockers.
- Patrons must enter and exit thorough the main gymnasium doors. Fire doors should not be used except in emergency.
- Proper athletic shoes must be worn on the gym floor. Street shoes, shoes that mark the floor or shoes that have been worn outside are not permitted.
- Patrons must sign out and return all gym equipment from the front desk.
- MCCS and command sponsored events have priority in the use of the gym and equipment.

RACQUETBALL COURT POLICIES
- Reservations for racquetball courts may be made by calling the front desk at 577-4128. Walk-in reservations are also accepted.
- Individual reservations will not be accepted more than 24 hours in advance. Units may reserve at any time for Unit PT. Reservations for Saturday, Sunday and Monday may be made the last working day of the week or by calling on the weekend.
- Reservations will not be made for consecutive periods.
- If a court has not been reserved and individuals are playing, a reservation for that court will not be accepted within one half-hour from the time of request.
- Reservations are taken on the hour, one-hour periods, and are limited to one call per person.
- Personnel who cannot show up must cancel their court reservation at least 15 minutes in advance of the appointed court time. If personnel fail to claim the court within 10 minutes of appointed time, the court will be forfeited and will be governed by challenge rules.
- Wearing of protective goggles is mandatory.
- Proper athletic shoes must be worn in the racquetball courts. Street shoes, shoes that mark the floor or shoes that have been worn outside are not permitted.

SAUNA POLICIES
- Sauna is maintained between 170 and 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Use of water or any oil on the interior heating rocks is prohibited.
- Pregnant women and persons suffering from heart disease, diabetes or either high or low blood pressure are advised to consult their physician before entering the sauna.
- Patrons must be at least 18 years of age to use the sauna.
- Under no circumstances may patrons wear excess clothing such as a sweat suit or rubberized suit while in the sauna. Do not wrap in ceramic wrap.
- Patrons are required to sit or lie down on a clean towel.
- Staff personnel, only, will monitor temperature and time.
- Keep all paper, plastic, metal and glass objects out of the sauna.
- To prevent burns, it is recommended that you do not wear metal objects such as watches, rings and/or medals.
- Patrons should not exceed 30 minutes in the sauna at any one time. It is recommended patrons do not exceed 15 minutes.
- Patrons should cool off by taking a warm shower and slowly cooling down.
- Body oils, lotions and creams are prohibited.
- Exercising in the sauna is prohibited.
- No food or drink is permitted in the sauna.
- Do not place or hang any object on or above the heater. Do not use the sauna for drying clothes.
- Before entering the sauna it is polite to take a shower.

PHYSICAL FITNESS CENTER POLICIES
- All equipment will be returned to its proper place after use.
- All equipment will be disinfected and wiped down after each use.
- Inexperienced patrons are encouraged to seek assistance from certified fitness staff regarding proper workout and lifting techniques.
- Unaccompanied individuals must be at least age 16. Participants between the ages of 12-15 must have adult supervision at all times. No one under age 12 is permitted in the free-weight area; this includes infants in car seats, strollers, etc.
- Youth ages 12-15 must attend Marine Teen Training and obtain a Teen Card before using the Fitness Center. Once the Marine Teen Training is complete, youth are authorized to work out under the direct supervision policy for this age group.
- Appropriate exercise clothing is required at all times (shirts, rubber sole shoes, etc.) No utilities are permitted, i.e., cammies, boots, etc. All patrons must wear a shirt or top garment covering the mid section of the body.
- Active Duty military personnel have priority in this area.
- There is a 30-minute time limit on all cardiovascular equipment during peak times, or when all pieces of like equipment are occupied simultaneously. A sign-in log will be used during peak times to monitor and assist patrons.
- For safety and security purposes, all personal items to include gym bags, shoes, clothes, etc. are not permitted in the fitness area. All personal items must be stored in lockers.
- Fitness staff may require and direct individuals to have a "spotter," based on the specific lift being accomplished.

LOCKERS POLICIES
Daily lockers are available in Men’s and Women’s locker rooms. A limited number of long term lockers in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms are available to patrons. Active duty has the first priority. Please call the front desk at 577-4128 regarding details of you long term renting locker program.
Military personnel may sign up on the waiting for these lockers at the Miramar Sports Complex. Those lockers not identified as long-term lockers may be used for daily use only. All eligible Miramar Sports Complex patrons are authorized to use these lockers. There is no charge for their use. Locks left on more than twenty-four (24) hours will be cutoff. MCCS is not responsible for items stored in the lockers.

PARKING: Parking is available at the Miramar Sports Complex Center and in adjacent parking lots across the street at MCCS Administration Bldg.
